Try downloading and burning the GParted live CD.
Link: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
Then boot from the CD and Open GParted.
Do you see an NTFS partition?
If not, you accidentally deleted Windows 7 while installing
Ubuntu, and will need to reinstall it.

You just said that you couldn't see it though ... if you go to a command line, and type "df", what do you get? Do you see the NTFS partition any where?

this has save me 4-5 times after installing win 7

just boot from live cd and install in terminal

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install boot-repair-ubuntu

It can be done - but I doubt you will find (m)anyone that has done it successfully longterm.

Link of doom: http://www.goodells.net/multiboot/

I would seriously suggest backing up any data (on w7 and/or ubu) to an external drive - format your hdd and then install w7 1st to a primary partition and create an extended partition and logical partitions for ubu :(
