I have a Geforce FX 5600 card with 256MB. I'm using the Nvidia driver for it. When I boot up I get the B/W vertical lines then it goes black then the desktop appears. Sometimes it hangs in the B/W vert mode and I have to reboot. In that mode you can't read anything. Anyone have any ideas what is causing it and how to correct it. Thanks.

Hi, it sounds like your video card driver is not working like it should you should be able to use a nomodeset parameter to boot ubuntu so you can uninstall your nvidia driver and try another one.

I personally have to use the older version driver as I suspect you will need to also.

It was the Nvidia drivers. I tried different ones but they were doing the same thing. I finally got rid of the Nvidia drivers and everything looks good and working properly. Thanks.
