I am working on installing WINE. When I go to the software center and search WINE, there are 13 choices none of which is clear as to which should be installed first, whether more than one should be installed, or, if more than one, which is first. Is there a write up somewhere that explains exactly how to install WINE?

Hi JC,

Let Ubuntu download what it prefers using apt-get

sudo apt-get install wine

I think that will give you a version that works well.

Have fun finding out about Ubuntu

I wish it was fun learning about Ubuntu but there's always a glitch. In the processing of the wine install it gets to a place where you have to accept an EULA for microsoft fonts. How do you accept it. I tried pressing enter because it shows OK in the box. I tried retyping the OK. I scrolled through the agreement to the end. Nothing is working. How do I get past this point?

<TAB> until it's highlighted, then <SPACE>

That worked. Thank you very much. WINE is now installed and I have a couple simple games working. These installations left an icon on the desktop as I wanted, but it also left a .lnk icon for each one. Can those .lnk icons be deleted or does WINE need them?

I'm glad that wine works for you :-)

I think you can run the games without the links, but maybe it would be more inconvenient, so you could rename them and see if it works as you want (and later on either reset them to the original name or delete them).

When you feel that your problem is solved, please make the thread SOLVED

Have fun

I believe the .lnk icons will be able to be deleted. I don't know how to mark the thread solved.

At the top of your thread page, select Thread Tools -- Mark this thread as solved
