I am really new to ubuntu and other OS's outside of the protective realm of windows and mac,and in the past I just had to click on a file and it would install. But ubuntu is different. I was wondering how to install tar.gz files in a simple way. I am not familiar with any commands here so please try to make it simple.

You can't find the app in Ubuntu Software Center or a .deb package. It would make it alot easier.

If not, you'll have to compile it on your own! :)

Not on the app store, I am trying to play a beta for a game someone made and it is only a tar.gz file. Also, what is compiling on my own?

Depends on what's in the tar.gz. What's the full name of the file, where did you download it from, and did you check the repositories first?

Right click the package and extract it. Then read what the file inside says.
