Now that it has moved to this incubator thing, has it stopped? Is it still going? What is going on?

You can poke around here to get an idea:

I don't bother. Quite happy using the suite that comes with Ubuntu 11.04, LibreOffice.

I think most would suggest uninstalling openoffice and then installing libreoffice , because libre office is being worked on (improved ) at a much faster rate

Hi Robert

I had the same questions. According to wikipedia, there was a difference of opinion between Oracle after it had bought Sun, and many of the developers, who consequently forked it into Libre Office. I would recommend moving to Libre Office, but certainly read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libreoffice and make your own opinion.

Kind regards,
Jonathan.

Robert Moyse,

You should find this interesting: http://www.h-online.com/open/features/LibreOffice-a-dive-into-the-unknown-1355159.html .

+1 for installing LibreOffice.

Open office is dead. Use Libre Office instead.

Once Apache OO will get out of podling, I guess that there will be some manpower from IBM put into this.

LibO is has some features that are show stoppers for me so OOo is still a valid alternative.

What I have heard is that IBM are going to put proprietary code into it. That ruins the whole point of the project!
