hi,
I have a old Compaq computer that I would like to put some version of Ubuntu on it that would work. It has 128 megs of memory with a Pentium II chip. It has a 6 gig HD in it. Can anyone recommend a good version of Ubuntu that would work on it?
Thanks

Hi some for you to consider: Lubuntu, light and fast. Xubuntu, not quite so light but just as fast as Lubuntu. Puppy Linux, even though I know nothing about it a lot of people here will probably insist you use it. DSL (Damn Small Linux). The last two very light on resources and very fast.

I do not think you can get any Ubuntu to run on that computer, you could install and run Puppy Linux .

I'm looking at the puppy linux. This computer is in the exercise room, sitting in front of the exercise bike. It will only be used to read and watch videos and listen to music as one uses the bike. I wonder if puppy linux can run a music player and movie player?
I think it has a browser, although I only have a phone line for this computer.

Puppy has a media player, although that computer probably wont play from the internet, but should play just fine from USB , or if the movie is on computer...... the new puppy Linux can install Ubuntu apps.

I am sad to see that people in here still recommend Damn Small Linux. It is an abandoned project which has not received any bug fixes for two years, and this translates to one big security hole.

I don't think any of the people recommending Lubuntu has tried it on 128 MB memory.

Puppy is a good choice. Here are some more, if you like experimenting:
