I think I'm in the same boat.
I tried to install Ubuntu on a MacMini (late 2009). I couldn't get the installer working, so ended up installing Ubuntu Alternate (text mode). But when I try to boot Ubuntu I get the a problem with the graphics again, just like the beginning of the normal install.
Any ideas how to get the graphics working?
The graphics card is an Nvidia 9400m.
I have installed Ubuntu on other systems, but never had this problem. I always had some kind of (basic) graphics.
