View Full Version : [SOLVED] LInksys WIFI card not showing up after installing Broadcomm b34 firmware

Hi,
I have an old Fujitsu Amilo laptop of low specs which I tried to bring to life. It has built in Wifi but also a slot for a Wifi network adaptor. I one I use is the Linksys WPC54G V3 802.11 Wireless G adapter.
I installed Lubuntu 11.04 on the machine ans all went well. It recognised my built in wifi and assigned it wlan0. When I slotted in my network adapter it assigned that as wlan1. This was confirmed by the output of iwconfig. I got net connected via ethernet and wlan0 with no problems
After failing to connect with the Wireless G Adapter I found that my firmware for the card needed upgrading. I followed the instructions posted by "Darth Bane" in this post :

After rebooting I found that wlan1 ( Wireless G Network Adapter) had now completely disappeared on the outputs of the iwconfig and iwlist scan commands. However, the wlan0 ( built in wifi) does show ( even though it is down). Reference to the card does appear in the output for lspci -vnn but on running sudo lshw -C network it is listed under *-network UNCLAIMED.

Do I have to manually assign the card to wlan1 using iwconfig ? Initial finds on Google suggest that the drivers are not properly installed. I am vary of uninstalling all the packages I downloaded and installed via "Darth Banes" method and do not want to re-install the entire system again.
Any help would be most appreciated.

UPDATE : I installed the firmware-b43-installer package via Synaptic but should I have installed the lpphy or legacy versions instead ?

can you run this commands please



sudo aptitude install b43-fwcutter
sudo modprobe b43
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2
cd broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver
sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ wl_apsta_mimo.o

rebbot

if you still have problems run

lshw -c Network
lsmod
dmesg

Thanks for the help. I managed to resolve the issue by uninstalling b34- fwcutter , firmware-b43-installer, broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source. I then reinstalled b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43-installer. After reboot the network adapter card showed up fine as wlan1 .
