Trouble compiling sk98lin driver

Hello all, I recently purchased a D-Link DGE530T network gigabit nic, I tried installing the drivers but no go. I finally got to getting an updated version on dlink's site, but the installator fails at the Compiling Driver step. What could be the next step?

Well I got it to compile using this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1039144.html). now, I know I can modprobe sk98lin. then what? now lshw sees my D-Link card but says Unclaimed beside it. What could be the next step?
