A few details would help, what wireless chipset? Which wireless driver? what type of encryption?

So, what happens after you enter the wireless key? I assume that means the network authorization key.

I have a similar problem.
After boot it asks for the key (should know it already) and it connects without problem. If I disconnect the wireless interface (just by putting the machine in sleep mode), then it asks again for the key and cannot reestablish the communication. If I reboot the wireless router, then ubuntu is able to establish a connection again.
This seems a nasty bug.
I use wpa2 personal with aes encryption and hidden ssid
