LOL
killall nautilus
killall gnome-panel
something you have to do frequently when theming
that's all
I can hide them quickly by putting them in a dir in the Desktop dir called .hidden
I had shutdown and reboot ones but it seems the command only takes from a shell, so I even tried to tell the launcher to run from a terminal...didn't work. Works from a terminal though...???....go figure
gnome-session-save --kill & reboot
gnome-session-save --kill & poweroff
ooooo
offtopic again 8-[
thx for the comment on the icons!

right click the bar, goto properties, in the background tab, goto 'solid colour' and move the bar.

Yeah, I figured out that some of the themes i use draw a background seperate of the panel background. If I choose system color it all matches, but If I change it to transparent, Some things get the trans bg, while the menus stay with the system color bg. I decided to forget it.

not for the bottom panel? What's up with that? Gotta like top or side panels to have one completely trans? That's useless! Is this the case with others or is my panel config screwy? Gnome-2.9.4 hoary here. :-( I also tried to move the bottom panel to the top and create a new bottom and add new applets.

http://img195.exs.cx/img195/5654/firefox7ql.th.png (http://img195.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img195&image=firefox7ql.png)
The iconbar at the bottom, the clock at top left and the Seti monitor at bottom left are gDesklets. I shifted the window list, trash and pager into the top panel and got rid of the bottom panel.
The other monitors are Gkrellm. I have three sets of monitors running - one for this box (playpen) and two others for my servers (fivestar and library).
The GTK2 theme is OSX-Aqua which I found at gnome-look.org. I think I found the wallpaper there as well.
The firefox theme is Noia 2.0 Extreme. Not really happy with it but I haven't found a theme that gels with the GTK2 theme yet.
Also, a tip for posting screenshots - www.imageshack.us do free hosting and allow you to do a thumbnail/link like mine above.

I must have stuffed up the first link during cut&paste. Fixed now. The second one was ok already.
Imageshack don't let you modify images you have submitted to them. You can only submit the modified image again in which case it is stored separately with a separate url.

How are you starting gDesklets? I had trouble launching the displays via Nautilus so I just opened a gnome-terminal and -
cd /usr/share/gdesklets/displayname
gdesklets displayname.display
Substitute the name of the display for displayname above.
Apologies if the directory is not quite right - not in front of the box right now.

Here is my fluxbox screenshot running on my mac: http://www.ashu39.dsl.pipex.com/screenshots/screenshot.jpg
I suppose you must think, "why on earth is he using fluxbox when he could be using gnome?" well its quite simple, im one of those people who have about 12 programs open at any give time so i like to have all the ram & cpu focusing on the programs rather than the desktop environment.
In case your interested:
The background is a modified version of the butterfly gdm theme and the fluxbox theme is "sn33z" which i modified to fix the fonts see the fluxbox documentation (http://www.fluxbox.org/docbook/en/html/faq.html#AEN989) . The xmms skin is actually winamp classic from the winamp skin page.

If you're talking about PimpinHondaCivic's post, it's most likely not gdesklets but superkaramba. That's a KDE desktop, after all.

somuchfortheafter, you loose a little but you can convert the m4p's to m4a's and play those in linux with faad2, xmms-faad2. Why the xmms-faad2 is not in the repos is beyond me.

yes, thanks for the link to the large versions. and to the gimp.
I thought it was decent. there is just something about it that doesn't go well though. maybe the background being white? hmm... I don't know. I just tried to go back and change it. but it seems that I have only saved it as a .png without layers. arr... oh well. on to new ones.

The ones in my app menu are a mix of recolored gartoon, gorilla, plastic suse, and industrial (I'm never happy with one theme, so I make my own!)
The ones in my nautilus are:
toolbar: semi-dynamically recolored gorilla svgs + suse plastic
spinner: dancing ubuntu beta, with issues
filesystem: semi-dynamically recolored gorilla folders and emblems with fruity hearts, suse plastic, and ximian xd2
essentially, all of them together are "kass' theme" heh -- I always have at least one theme folder on my system for my "favorite" icons / color schemes / metacity theme, etc.
