Does anyone know why digikam is sooo far behind in releasese in ubuntu/kubuntu?
they are on version 2.1(which has many good features, ie facial scan and panorama stiching built it, the later just released) why has ubuntu at least not updated to 2.0 it has been out since april...
thanks and i need help in getting the most current version built so i can actually view my photos and tag them w/ ppl without going thru 23000 photos.

you could try one of the debian packages
or grab the tarball from digikam and try compiling it yourself .

Thank you for your response, i know i could compile myself i just find it odd that as a community we are pushing the Linux OS forward as an alternative to windows but we are not putting current software in the repos. I understand not getting in natty but notfor oneiric. the stable version of digi came out same time natty was released....i truely don't understand this move by the devs.
Don't get me wrong, i appreciate all they do and think they do a great job...just when so many photo managers can do things like face recognition for us to fix bug #1 ppl have to have see something their current OS doesn't do as well, not the other way around.
just my thoughts...just confused on this one.

The Kubuntu team is undermanned this release cycle but have done a lot of good work. It's not surprising that something would get missed along the way. Now, however, a Feature Freeze Exception has to be approved as Ubuntu 11.10 is stabilizing for release.
