Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I couldn't figure out where else to post this.

I want to make my own distro/live CD based on Ubuntu. I've already looked at the linux from scratch website, but concluded that I would be recreating too many wheels for what I want to do in this lifetime ;) Besides, Ubuntu rules 8)

My goal is to create a distro that has everything Ubuntu has except the following:

-only the apps I want
-customized networking
-customized boot/install script
-remove support/packages for a lot of hardware classes
-customized kernel
-custom help files
-custom links in web browser

Also the ability to install from the live CD would also be nice but that would be in the future.

I need a place to start/overview. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The only reason to take things out is if you run out of space because you've added too much. I always see these kinds of posts from people without nearly the expertise required to do such a thing. Clearly, if it's only for you and a few friends, your return on such an investment of effort will be minimal.

What you probably want is an automated customizing script for Ubuntu. Look what automatix is able to accomplich. But hey, if you don't agree, then knock yourself out.

The effort is never minimal since you learn through what you accomplish, and in the end you might be helping shaping ubuntu. I was looking for something similar as well.
