Hey, I've been having trouble with my laptop screen. I have a Dell Latitude D510 and I run Ubuntu 10.10. Previously my laptop just had one line of pixels which were dead, and then the right side of the screen was lighter than the rest, however this didn't really affect anything because it was only noticeable when watching movies and it was at the side so it didn't really impede reading and it wasn't noticeable next to light backgrounds. The shape of the lighter section was just a rectangle that went along the whole length of the screen, but only 6cm in width.

However now, a new section in the middle of the screen is much darker than the rest. It too, like the lighter section goes across the length of the screen but is only 6cm in width as well. It is extremely noticeable with light background and reading is really distracting.

Why have these lighter and darker sections on my screen appeared? What would've caused them and if I can, how can I remove them and do I have to buy a new screen?
