View Full Version : [ubuntu] Gnash + Pandora on Natty?

Hi all,

I'm running Natty Narwhal 64 bit. Everything is great. I'm not installing unfree software, in particular, no Adobe Flash player. I don't trust it, I don't want it, I won't install it.

I have installed gnash, which seems to be working pretty well. Youtube videos play fine.

However, it does have its share of problems:

Pandora.com doesn't work. It loads part of the way and then crashes.
Youtube can burn a lot of CPU. It seems like gnash can max out when trying to play a HD video. This is on a reasonably modern machine.
TheOnion.com's videos won't play at all

My life is good enough without needing Pandora or TheOnion videos but still, if there's some fix for this, I would be interested. Any fix except installing Flash player, that is.

For YouTube, get my FlashVideoReplacer (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashvideoreplacer/), which allows to watch the videos with a different (open source) plugin like gecko-mediaplayer, which uses much less CPU. It also allows to launch the videos with external player.

Anybody? I can live without Pandora but it would be nice...
