Home Recording through Ubuntu

Hello, I'm the process of downloading ubuntu because it has been recommended to me and it seems to be more customizable than Windows 7 (which I currently have). Anyways, I'm planning on doing a lot of music writing and recording and was wondering if there are any other musicians here and if ubunto will let me run my recording programs.

I will not be doing multi-million dollar recording sessions, simply home recording demos, guitar, vocals, bass, keyboards and drum sampling.

1)I currently use Reaper, ProTools, eZdrummer, guitar pro, and FL studios 9. I was wondering if I would be able to use the same programs through ubunto?

2) If there are any other musicians, or music engineers. What program do you use to record that is compatible with ubunto and/or what do you recommend.

I'm not in audio production myself so can't answer you questions.. but as far as I know Ubuntu Studio (http://ubuntustudio.org/) is the platform made for the job.

If by your programs you mean Windows programs, the answer is probably negative. Windows programs don't work on Linux, and Ubuntu is not a free drop in Windows replacement. While it is possible to run some Windows program in wine, not all will work.
That said, I'd recommend taking a look at Ubuntu Studio.

Do expect a rather steep learning curve. There is a sub-section dedicated to Ubuntu Studio users support.

REAPER runs well on Wine (although I don't use it that way). There are quite a few good threads about it on the REAPER forums.

Ubuntu Studio might be up your street, although I have a feeling to get the most out of what you're trying to do, you might need to use Wine once in a while.

well Carlos for recording real instruments I personally choose Ardour (http://ardour.org/) which is very good and has many many functions and use of a lot of plugins

As regards midi composition I personally use Rosegarden also in your synaptic
all my compositions here (http://shan.bandcamp.com/) were made on Rosegarden on Ubuntu
