Can someone tell me how to turn off the Unity desktop and go back to Gnome or whatever it was that first installed with Ubuntu 11.04?

I'm pretty new to linux, so i dont know how to do much. When i first installed Ubuntu 11.04, i didnt have the graphics driver to run Unity, so Gnome was the desktop.

When i downloaded the driver, Gnome went away and Unity replaced it.

How do i get Gnome to start when I boot up instead of Unity?

Hi and welcome to Ubuntu,

Have at look at this page which provides screenshots and a nice guide on returning to Gnome classic from Unity.

you have to input your username first, then you will see a list of available des
and as far as i recall, ubuntu will remember the last DE that was last accessed and load that one on next boot
