View Full Version : [ubuntu] No Audio in Ubuntu 11.04 (*not* muted)

Hi guys. Yesterday I installed a m-audio card just to test if it was working as I was going to sell it. It worked with no unnecessary pain.
But my on board card stopped working afterwards!
My sound is not muted and I've read a lot of posts in this community, none of them addressing my problem. That's why I am posting a new thread.
I think the problem is I can't get the sound preferences to be set to "amplifier". Whatever I do, it's always set to "no amplifier" and I'm starting to wonder if it will ever be.
Here's my alsa script if it helps anyone:

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=7b7bd4706d88fcae96e7295953dde900e6360338I don't know what else to say that isn't said in the script.

Also, alsa-base.conf:

# autoloader aliases
install sound-slot-0 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-0
install sound-slot-1 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-1
install sound-slot-2 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-2

EDIT: Oops I think I've found my problem. I have differing versions of drivers/libraries:

Driver version: 1.0.23
Library version: 1.0.24.1
Utilities version: 1.0.24.2
Can it be fixed? I didn't update them...

Have you tried alsamixer? I would try toggling these elements:

Simple mixer control 'External Amplifier',0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [on]
Simple mixer control 'Sigmatel 4-Speaker Stereo',0
Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Mono
Mono: Playback [off]

Alsamixer
Using a Terminal="Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

alsamixer
Press <F6> to select the correct soundcard.
Press <F3> to show playback levels. <F4> selects capture levels [or use <Tab>]
Use the left/right arrow keys to select and up/down arrow keys to change levels. <M> to mute/unmute.
