View Full Version : [ubuntu] "Cold plug Devices" - Ubuntu freezes on startup

August 16th, 2011, 10:49 PM
My laptop refuses to run Ubuntu. After powering on the computer, and selecting the relevant operating system, the Ubuntu loading screen shows and then this message shows up:

Stopping Cold Plug devices [ ok ]
Stopping log initial device creation [ ok ]
Starting configure network device security [ ok ]
Starting configure virtual network devices [ ok ]
Stopping virtual network devices

And then it just freezes on me. I have never encountered anything like this before. Please forgive me if this post is unprofessional, I'm sort of a beginner when it comes to Linux. If someone more capable than I could explain to me what's going on and what is to be done in this situation, I would be eternally grateful, because I have no idea what to do. I'm running Windows XP from the same laptop at the moment, and it works perfectly.

Thank you in advance
