I am running Ubuntu 11.04 and thoroughly enjoy using the best Operating System around today. I am also using Firefox 5 but dislike using Google. So could anyone suggest a search engine that doesn't try and take over the whole screen.

I have tried many , but as much as I don't like to write it , Google and Bing have the best results in my area . http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/navigatingthenet/tp/top_10_search_engines_for_beginners.htm

Definately DuckDuckGo - It's really privacy focussed and has loads of advanced features.

scroogle.org
(actually this still takes over the whole page, and in fact still uses google). if you don't want it taking over the whole page what's wrong with a query bar? also if your using chromium you can just plug a query into the url area and it figures it out.

also swoogle.umbc.edu and swse.org are semantic web based search engines, which are quite interesting.

oh yes, the point of scroogle is supposed to be privacy, if thats important.

Think it's going to be between Altavista and DuckDuckgo at the moment. Thanks for all the help everyone.
