I had impossible problems upgrading my old Asus Eeepc 1000 H machines (one with celeron and one with Atom) from netbook remix to Natty W.
It was suggested I try Xubuntu Natty W, which is a sort of ubuntu lite.
Immediate positive moves forward.

I totally agree. I use Xubuntu on a Eee PC 1001px, and it's amazing :D

Yep. As our netbooks get a bit aged, it seems we are pushed to look into lighter alternatives.
It's not bad I guess, that's why so many choice exists after all. For me, in my two netbooks which I like very much although they don't have power to spare in eye candy, LUbuntu has been the most balanced choice so far. It's even lighter than xubuntu though (yet a bit spartan).

Xubuntu is not as light, best solution is excellent Lubuntu with lxde desktop. It will revive your eeePC.
