I've recently switched from Gnome to KDE so I don't have to use unity. I love it on my desktop (Kubuntu 11.04 64 bit), so decided to install to my eeepc (currently ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit). It had an older kubuntu install that I hadn't looked at for months. So I decide to boot it up and have a play.
I got this:

I tried removing .kde as root. from a Ubuntu, then from a terminal prompt with no desktop. No joy. So I decided to boot into a live version. That way I could see how it worked, then install. The idea was if I had problems after that, I'd back up my (separate) /home partition then do a full wipe and install. But the live version showed the same desktop.
Is it down to the hardware, or have I missed something important?
I have an eeepc 904ha (1.6 atom processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB hd).
Thanks
