Okay, let me just say first off, that I am a console game programmer. I've been in the industry for about 5 years. I've been using Linux for about 8 years (full time, aside from gaming). But I am fairly new to Linux system programming. I've written a few applications, but that doesn't count in this case.
Recently, I decided to play Freespace again, and decided to use Freespace 2 SCP in Linux, rather than using Windows. It's been somewhat of a nightmare, as Alt-Tab does not work. This pretty much kills gaming in this OS for me.
So, my question is this. Why has this bug persisted for so very very long, and what can I do to fix it? It's obviously not an easy problem to solve, or it would have been solved by now. But what is wrong, and where do I start looking?
