A while back I was attempting to get a second OS on my windows 7 computer and I wound up using OpenSUSE. I did not think it was very good because I had a lot of trouble customizing things and accessing things. I wound up getting rid of it.

Now I have Linux 11.04 installed on my second hard drive and I have to say, the Unity desktop is an extreme improvement. It's truly gorgeous and in my opinion it tops Windows 7, easily. I think Ubuntu should start a marketing campaign in the US and try to beat out Microsoft, this OS is simple to use and with all the competition being focused on the mobile market right now, I feel that now would be a good time to rock the foundation that Microsoft is standing on. People are leaving Windows for Mac and other platforms, Linux could really get a foot in the door.

Also, I just read an article saying that Linux can use OpenGL and that Google is pushing for the WebGL standard to become more mainstream. If this is the case, then the entire argument related to lack of gaming on Linux will be Moot and more companies will start adopting WebGL, thus making their games playable through browsers running on Linux machines.

Welcome aboard. Take your time and ask questions, and you'll do OK. Most people here will bend over backwards to help you. Patience is the key, just like anything else you learn.

Hi Trilogin,

glad you are enjoying the system.

A small note: it is Ubuntu 11.04, which comes with Linux 2.6.38. Technically Linux is just the kernel, although often times the entire system is called Linux, however, if you need to specify version numbers, keeping the two separate makes it easier for the rest of us to help. This will make it easier if you ever need help.
