What I have is a IBM ThinkPad T20 2647. It is a Pentium III 700 MHz, 128 MB) based on the type on the bottom of the machine and cnet (http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/ibm-thinkpad-t20-2647/1707-3121_7-1800008.html). I opened the RAM bay and there were two chips, one saying 128 MB, so presumably it has 256MB RAM.

The machine is surplus and comes with W2k Professional installed. When I first tried to boot from the 10.10 live CD, I noticed an error. I tried to write it down but got as far as

and the error message read
Ubuntu 10.10

When the ubuntu installation screen came up, I tried several times to install ubuntu but the cursor would just spin for hours. Somehow I ended up causing an issue with the BIOS so I left it off overnight and tried again. When I went to "try ubuntu" instead of installing it, it brought up a user authentication (presumably from W2k/Pro) and I could not get any further than that.

I once again rebooted and went to install... I got to the preparing to install page but once again, the cursor is just spinning. I have not gotten any further than that. I have the "enhanced" 10.04 CD so I am going to try my luck with that but any advice is welcome. I don't care what is on the HDD and will likely format it ext3 or 4.

Thanks
