et upgrade from 2.5 to 2.6

ok I want to upgrade et from 2.5 to 2.6 I downloaded the 2 files I need but I cant replace them as I dont have permission because I am not root . What I am trying to do is install true combat but in order to do that I must be running et 2.6 whichI am not and I really dont want to uninstall it then reinstall the 2,6 ver when al I really ned to do is replace two files

go to applications -> accessories -> terminal
this will put you in your home directory, then type this

sudo cp -f path_to_new_file path_to_old_file

ok that part went well thank you . As I am new to linux I tried typing in the path and file names a coupkle of times duh didnt get it right but then I did a couple of copy and paste files and that seems to have worked better for me thank you again . So now I am off to try and install true combat lets hope all goes well .
