I've been away from this forum for a while. I've been a bit hot and cold over Ubuntu. Right now, I'm red hot, as I've re-installed it (after tyring a bunch of other distros, to varying degree of satisfaction). I'm having a great time with it again. It is such a smooth, solid, stable, easy, fast distro.
Two things I was cold about (which I've gotten over now):
1. Single disc, with limited software installation: Generally, I prefer a larger package set, as I don't have the bandwidth at home to apt-get everything I want. But I have T1 access at work, where I have an extra PC, and I can bring in my laptop, and apt-get everything I want, easily, quickly, and seamlessly. I just installed KDE easily and quickly, and it worked beautifully.
2. Dial up set up: I had to do a lot of tinkering to get this to work to my satisfaction inititially, but I can get it working fine now, now that the learning curve is over.
So once again, I love Ubuntu. Synaptic and the Ubuntu repositories are such a great feature. I haven't had such great luck with other Debian based distros. With those, installing something with apt-get would work maybe 30% of the time. With Ubuntu/apt-get/Synaptic/Ubunut repositories, installing something works 100% of the time. No fuss, no muss.
Anyway, now that I'm back using Ubuntu in earnest, I'm back to wanting to frequent the Ubuntu forum. I've noticed some nice changes. I like the new user rating system (based on amount of posts), with the coffee cups, and the little phrases. I just think it's cool and clever and appropriate. So, good job Ubuntu Forum admins! =D>
And, oh yeah, great job Ubuntu Devs! =D>
Sorry, this is a boring, pointless post/thread. I just wanted to express my satisfaction with the Ubuntu experience. :D
