Hi, I woud just like to know if this thread is still valid and up-to-date.

Yes most of that information is entirely valid.

If you are unsure about some of the specific information, search that separately on the forums or in google, but generally the answer to your question is YES.

+1 to the above answers. Over the past 15+ years I've found linux very secure. I've not been hacked or had any virus. I've been using Ubuntu as my only OS since 2006 and have had no problems with security.
