there was a similar thread already up (someone having trouble with the one they have) but i didn't want to hi-jack that topic with recommendations of some other ones.

anyhow, this comes in 2 parts

1: i've recently been thinking about buying a new audio interface (since nobody out there seems to really know how to get the tascam us-144 mkii i have working). The two i've been looking at (based on what i've read on ubuntu-related pages) are the ART USB Dual Pre (http://www.amazon.com/ART-USB-Dual-Channel-Preamp/dp/B002KEAT78/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3LZF1JLQUGT3X&colid=2PXVU5GPUPSUS) and the Lexicon Lambda (http://www.amazon.com/Lexicon-Lambda-Desktop-Recording-Studio/dp/B000FFWZKI/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I27U4K9YDB5EG8&colid=2PXVU5GPUPSUS) ... any thoughts or insights?

2: even though i'm looking (above) for ways to plug in my current studio mic and other things with those interfaces, i've also thought about the idea (for portability reasons) of looking into a studio-quality (but not crazy top of the line expensive) usb microphone. i have no idea what's good and what's good for ubuntu. i've been trying to run searches for insights on this, but it pulls up such a sea of unrelated discussions, i figured it might be ok to ask (even though i'm sure someone out there has already answered this)
