View Full Version : [ubuntu] how to install linux on hp mini 110?

ive got an hp mini 110. it came with windows 7 starter. last night i was playing GTA vice city and it died. i woke up this morning and went to boot it up and found out the data on the hdd is corrupted. im stuck with this hp start up program with internet and i.m etc. i want to create an ubuntu thumbdrive to boot from and wipe the hdd. but i dont know where to start. please help

If you are just wiping the drive, then any Ubuntu would do. The tool you would use is called GParted, and you can get it seperately if you dont want to download the whole operating system.

im really not all that computer smart. can you explain more about GParted? from what i read i think its an optimized version of ubuntu for x86 based computers?

Just install Ubuntu and let it do the work. The newest version is 11.04 (Natty Norwhal) and the newest LTS is 10.04.2 (Lucid Lynx). Your choice. The 11.04 version is supported until Oct 2012 and 10.04 is supported until Apr 2013, being a Long Term Supported version.

is there a way to download ubuntu already usb bootable? i cant get into files to run the 123 usb thing. i can only download things to my thumb drive with the computer im using.

If this is a Windows computer I use unetbootin to make my bootable usb's

im using hp instant web right now so i cant run programs i can only download files to my thumb drive. can someone give me a link to or send me an ubuntu file that i can download to my thumb drive and already be bootable?
