I have a quick question regarding Mediatomb and 1080p transcoding. I have some MKVs I would like to convert to MP4s on-the-fly (Other formats work too) so my PS3 can play them. Specs are:

- Ubuntu Server Edition
- Intel i7 970 (6core 3.2ghz)
- 12GB DDR3 1333Mhz ram
- MSI X58 Pro-E Mobo

Now, I am positive there is enough ram there. The only worry is the processor. I am equally sure that will be enough to do the transcoding, but anyone know how much stress will it put on the processor? I plan on running some VMs for different OS's, with 1-2 running at the same time, so little worried with how much I have to play with.

Since from what I read, using the GPU isn't really an option (If this isn't true, please enlighten me! Would be appreciated).

Edit: Reason I am asking is I am planning out a new server.

Thanks in advance!
