I have recently installed Ubuntu 11.04. As I am still experimenting with the settings and eye candy, I have noticed some 'choppy' and otherwise annoying issues. Comparatively to Windows Vista, scrolling in Ubuntu windows are not so smooth. The "Additional Drivers" popped up on first startup and prompted an install of proprietary drivers for my card. The window indicates that "This driver is activated but not currently in use."

So I read around on the forums and installed mesa-utils for glxgears to get more performance info. I ran some tux penguin game and it ran very smooth. Compiz animations seem fun but flicker or become choppy at times. I also ran nvidia-xconfig to generate a full xorg.conf file.

So I am wondering what my next step would be to troubleshoot these issues. The card I have is pretty strong and runs extremely smooth in the Windows Vista environment. These annoyances can clearly mount to some frustrations as to keeping this linux box running alongside Windows.

Thanks!
