[not sure if right forum] cinelerra 2.1.5, does it work now?

Hey im not sure if this is the correct forum, but im getting a new computer in the next two days and want to put ubuntu on it, and have been reading about cinelerra and want to try it. However, I read that in older versions it only worked with .avi files and the audio and video have to be separated. In the newest version does anyone know if it got fixed and the A/V can be in the same file, and works with other file types like .mp4, .mov, .wmv, and the like?
