I have a PC with an Intel GMA 3150 video card and Ubuntu Natty installed. I'm trying to output the video to my TV through the VGA. The native resolution of the TV is 1920x1080. I've had another (Windows) PC hooked up to this TV at 1920x1080 before, and it worked fine.

In Ubuntu, the monitor application only goes up to 1024x768. If I set the resolution to 1920x1080 through xrandr, the screen looks like the below screenshot. Much of the screen is black, and the applications are hidden behind the black part. You can see that some of the screen is usable, including the top taskbar. I'm not sure what to even change in xrandr to try and fix this. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I FINALLY figured my issue out. It was a video card setting in the BIOS. I forget exactly which setting because i'm not at the PC right now. Not sure if the cause of your problem is the same as mine, but give it a shot.
