Hello,
The only problem with kubuntu is that has a very poor artwork, I am not a graphic person or something like that, I am just a user but artwork is the worst thing in kubuntu.
Kubuntu Dapper Drake Beta wallpaper, the basic one is really ugly, put some look an feel into it, is it so hard to find a better wallpaper? Gnome - ubuntu is doing so well.
Let's put some real artwork like in the case of SUSE 10.1

I agree. Comparing with the real look and feel giants like SUSE and Fedore, Ubuntu is on it's way and Kubuntu has fallen down to the level of MEPIS.
First, i sincerely thought that the bubble wallpaper in Kubuntu was some kind of internal joke between the developers.

Yeah I have to admit the KDE wallpaper is pretty poor. I think the ubuntu human theme is dapper is very good though.

Hi,
Check out my kubuntu wallpaper here. It is a simple design incorporating a minimalist concept.

I don't really think that's the optimal choice, but it is certainly better than the current one..
If this one got a different text, it would be very nice to have as default: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=37204
At some point before June 1st, the Jonathan Riddell has got to have some replacement ready.

I have made a wallpaper too, but since I have a widescreen laptop, I have made the wallpaper widescreen too.

Wow, I really like that wallpaper, Izfy, any way I could request a 1920x1200 version and get it?

The icons got me flummoxed.
The new recycle bin icon I like.
The Internet Orange Icon is slightly silly. Just an orange globe.
Looks more like a real orange than anything else.
The Programming Icon, what is it??

agreed, kubuntu artwork, well, sucks so bad it gives me the shivers: horrible boot splash, terrible background for the login screen, a wallpaper that simply doesn't fit in with the rest one bit, not to mention that silly background provided by default for konqueror... does this sound like bashing? hell yes, it does, if you can't get the job done, then don't even bother

Last time i checked the Programming Icon was a builder's yellow "protection hat" :)

Can somebody post a screenshot of what the default Kubuntu Dapper art looks like, for all the users that are still on Breezy?

Yeah, a complete return to the Breezy artwork would definately be doing Kubuntu a favor.
When you compare Kubuntu Dapper to SUSE 10.1, it's almost ridicolous :)

Kubuntu: Install to apps (http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=631&slide=4&title=kubuntu+6.06+flight+7+screenshots)
Ubuntu : install to apps (http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=630&slide=4&title=ubuntu+6.06+flight+7+screenshots)
EDIT : SUSE 10.1 (http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=637&slide=26&title=suse+linux+10.1+screenshots)
EDIT 2: Don't think suse is a better distro case it looks nicer, suse has lots less hardware support than ubuntu. Also stuff like synaptic, a GREAT forum makes ubuntu the best distro ;)

quoting you in full on this one, suse's community doesn't even come close, ours is unmatched in the oss universe, hands down

Yes, that doesn't look really good. However, I don't see much difference between Kubuntu Breezy and Dapper on these screenshot. It would seem that the Gnome version is the only one to have somewhat changed in its appearance.
Also, note that your Suse screenshot is on Gnome. here are screenshofts of Suse 10.1 on KDE (http://www.linuxforums.org/reviews/review_of_suse_10.1_4.html), who already look better than Dapper.
Anyway, who's in charge of the Kubuntu artwork (i.e., how can one help)?

I'll start by saying that i completely agree with you that this community is great. As long as these forums exist and there is a steady flow of inspiring Shuttleworth OGG-speeches, I won't be going anywhere. However, I don't think Ubuntu and Kubuntu are top competetive in the art of Linux Bling.
Take a look at the Gnome login screens from:
Ubuntu Dapper - http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=630&slide=3 - (Not really that exiting)
Fedora Core 5 - http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=596&slide=27 - An absolute beauty is you ask me.
With KDE the same pattern is seen:
Kubuntu Dapper - http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=631&slide=3 - Progress is made from Breezy, but still..
SUSE 10.1 KDE - http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=637&slide=53 - This speaks for itself.
However, I really like the orange direction that Ubuntu is taking. If they carried that out completely and took a look at what Novell and Red Hat artists are doing, I believe the result would be excellent.

Niviche, look at the last screenshots of suse I posted ;) ( they are KDE )
However, you can change your look in seconds if you look around on gnome-art or kde-art. And with ome good artwork ubuntu is the best distro in teh world ( IMO ;) )
