View Full Version : [all variants] Linux uses 2x electricity than Windows

I have an Asus U35J laptop. When I use Ubuntu, I felt that the computer is quite hot, but not when I use Windows 7.
So I plugged in a Watt-meter and checked how much Watt the computer uses. When I use Windows, it consumes 18 Watt (on idle). When I use Ubuntu, it consumes 36 Watt (on idle).
It has an i3 processor with an Intel integrated graphics card (or nvidia 310m which I don't use).
Can someone explain this, and tell me how to enter power saving-mode in linux?
In fact, the built-in Linux OS Asus Express Gate also consumes about 36 W.
