I am not exactly sure what to ask, but I like playing Multiplayer shooters, and Realtime Strategy Games.

1) What are the best native or ported Shooters and RTS games to play.

2) If I want to use wine or cedega, what kind of overhead am I looking at?

FYI - This is just for fun stuff on my laptop. I am pretty sure I wont be running doom 3, or anything cutting edge stuff.

CPU - 1.7 GHz Pentium Mobile
RAM - 512 MB
video - 128 MB ATI Mobility

The ones that make the cut so far, and every time I look there is morea nd more.

Nexuiz
tremulous

There are a few others and they are rather well done, some are at par or better than win games.

All of the Quake and Doom games are available for Linux. Another good multiplayer FPS besides Nexuiz and Tremulous is CodeRED: Alien Arena. Enemy Territory: Fortress (http://www.etfgame.com/) is a great game, too. (You'll need to have Enemy Territory, which is available for free, to play). I'm able to run Starcraft on my computer with Wine, and I heard that you can run Warcraft 3 and the Command and Conquer games on Linux with Wine, too.

Some great Linux gaming websites:

Linux-Gamers.net (http://www.linux-gamers.net/)
The Linux Game Tome (http://www.happypenguin.org/)
Linux-Gamers.net Wine and Cedega HOWTOs (http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=HOWTO+INDEX+Wine+Games&back=HOWTO+Home)

I am downloading Enemy Territory now. Looks kind of weird though, its downloading what looks like a shell script and some binary via ftp and displaying it in my browser. Its good to know that command and conquer work with wine, since I have a few of those that I never finished.

And my favorite which wasn't named is UT2004. Although its not free, it is a really great game if you like network first person action games. Awesome graphics, and very active network games.

open a terminal, and type: wget <url to that enemy territory download url>
if you don't have wget, install it ( sudo apt-get install wget ).. and then try again. 8)

True Combat:Elite (http://truecombat.us) is a mod for Enemy Territory and is an excellent Counterstrike clone.

i think enemy territory isn't even worth playing anymore. all the servers are polluted with so many 3rd party mods, it could take you an hour to dowload all the extra content. Most of the time the extra content sucks, or is worthless or annoying.

Tremulous is what i have been playing recently. its aliens vs marines.

True Combat: Elite is a great on line fps, my favorit.

To install the current version(0.49) you have to first install enemy terr. and then install etc, because it's a et mod.

If I remember they didn't have the newest linux patch on there website and I had to get it via bit torrent, though it did install easy enough.

nexuiz and quake2 are my favorites...

quake2 is old, but there's still nothing like it :)
