When I run something graphics/processor intensive for about half an hour my laptop no longer goes into sleep/hibernate mode when i close it. Instead the processor speeds up getting ridiculously hot, almost too hot to touch. When I open the lid, the screen is black and is unresponsive to any key(s). I have to turn it off. Any suggestions?

I first noticed the issue when I installed Desmume 0.9.5 but since then it does it with eclipse, code::blocks, and any web browser with alot of flash activity on the page. If I had to speculate I would say it seems there is a misused absolute value somewhere.

On this machine I'm running 10.04, kernel 2.6.35-22-generic.

Thanks in advance
