View Full Version : [ubuntu] CD/DVD drive has disappeared

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 and after the install I notice that my CD/DVD drive has disappeared, both in Ubuntu and in Windows XP.

I had this happen before, a few years ago, and I can't remember the solution. I think it has something to do with getting Grub to pass on some commands during the boot so that the computer recognizes the drive. Does anyone know what the command is, and how to set it up so that is is passed on every time I boot?

And can you see the drive when selecting a boot option in the Bios?

OK, I put a CD into the drive and Ubuntu mounted it and I can see it. That's strange. But I still get no CD drive in WinXP.
