Ok So yesterday after Getting my Internet back I downloaded the natty iso and made a live.thumbdrive (usb)
and istalled Natty
I am Not sure of what to think Of it
I do like it, Its really clean and all But it sorta gives me a bit of anxiety, Having to click and search for what used to me just a click away
other then that Things are going good
(other then havening to to go through files in a download of Papyon 0.5.5 and click them to get msn clones to send messages lol (but thats windows fault not Ubuntu (pheew FUD avoided)))
other then that I really Like the New Unity theme, Its a little eye sourish at times But thats to be expected when you just start using a new theme
thanks for reading feel free to leave a reply

I also like the clean lines of Ubuntu 11.04, but still not sure about the toddler friendly side bar, although it works well. Not so keen on the search option for applications, so I installed Cairo dock. A pity 11.04 did not do this or something similar as its far easier than 'hunting' for apps on the left side of the screen.
I've attached some screenshots of my desktop. Kinda dull I know....

Do you think this distro is Ubuntu's version of Vista, but without the instability?
For example slower boot time (same boot times with or without Cairo and Screenlets) and clunky but better looking interface.

I wonder where this clunkyness might be. You can configure the launcher on the left in a way that every app in those two screens above, docky included, can be launcher from there, without scrolling the bar because every icon can be made multifunctional. The icons are left quite big too.

since it seems that slow boto times and such vary it would seem that testing was done poorly. if you look at the test page that says what config needs to be had for unity to work you will notice that they actually tested it on 4 computers. so they did test the opensource radeon drivers for example, but they tested them on the card where they (the drivers) worked good anyway and then concluded that it will work nicelly on all cards from that period and later. lame and totally unscientific.

The concept of
Having to click and search for what used to me just a click awayis actually flawed as it ignores the hardest part of the activity
Navigating a mouse to a small target, moving over multiple other targets before selecting your target and clicking requires concentration and coordination. Just watch a beginner try to find a menu target by navigating across a big menu.
Power users have for a long time deferred to keyboard shortcuts, command lines and searches to perform these tasks, even in MS Windows. They do it because it is quicker and easier - it allows the user to concentrate on the task in hand.
Note the quickest way to use the Dash is:-
Tap the Super Key=>start typing the applications name => when it gets 'first in the queue"=>type Enter

I'm aware that the left launcher can be configured. But I suppose its just a personal preference as I prefer to use a menu when searching for apps and if I have to use a launcher, the bottom of the screen seems more convenient. However, these niggles aside 11.04 is working very smoothly, so bring on 11.10!
