Try gconf-editor;
/ -> desktop -> gnome -> file_views -> show_backup_files

Are you positive that you have ~files there to be seen? Otherwise I'm not sure.

Ctrl+h in Nautilus shows hidden dot files, but I don't remember if it shows the ~ temporary files as well.

I know nautilus shows but I need them on Desktop
