Couple quick Q's

Im new to the forum been using ubuntu for years. I was wondering why in 11.04 I cant seem to find anywhere that will give me a percentage for my wifi connectivity I even tried downloading the new unity style wifi applet that has the flight mode. I remember in 10.10 I could hover over the applet and it would tell me what percentage I was connected at. My second question was if anyone knows of any programs or drivers for ubuntu that would make use of my laptops Infrared Sensor. I really enjoyed being able to use the remote to control media.

I don't know if it supports on-board infrared or not, but LIRC is a great remote-control capture program. You still need a mapping program on top of it.
