View Full Version : [SOLVED] 11.04 -Unable to connect WiFi using USB wireless adaptor - Will not accept IP address

May 3rd, 2011, 08:37 PM

Came home from work today, excited about a fresh install of Kubuntu 11.04. Unfortunately my excitement was ended rather quickly upon realising that I can't connect to my wireless router. KNetworkManager appears to perform most of the connection but then fails when trying to obtain an IP address.
The device is listed below. It uses the rt73usb driver.

samwise@Triton:~$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 13b1:0020 Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g Adapter [ralink rt73]

Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same issue. My wifi was working prior to the upgrade to 11.04. Adaptor is RTL3070

Surely someone must know a possible fix for this issue!? It's really annoying, 11.04 is essentially unusable :(

It's definitely got to be an issue with rt73usb. It seems not to be a conflict with other usb wifi modules

samwise@Triton:~$ lsmod | grep rt
rt73usb 29092 0
crc_itu_t 2336 1 rt73usb
rt2x00usb 13600 1 rt73usb
rt2x00lib 34624 2 rt73usb,rt2x00usb
led_class 5256 1 rt2x00lib
input_polldev 4720 1 rt2x00lib
mac80211 210040 2 rt2x00usb,rt2x00lib
cfg80211 109144 2 rt2x00lib,mac80211
parport 40528 2 ppdev,lp

rt73usb seems to be the only one operating, all the others are dependencies.

After a week of trawling the web I have found the solution :guitar:

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

To permanently activate this feature, you need to edit /etc/rc.local
Add the following line -

iwconfig wlan0 power off

I hope this helps
