hi,

almost getting mad already with the screen resolution.
I have tried the examples here, but unable to set normal resolution.

how i can set 1680x1050 resolution?

margus@ubuntu:~$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Sandy Bridge Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

margus@ubuntu:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
800x600 61.0*
640x480 60.0

I tried to add 1024x768 and 1680x1050, but didn't worked at all.

with thanks!
margus

one more question, how do I know (can check) if the driver is installed correct one?
I found: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2011Q1.html
do I have to follow it ?

I'm having that board: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/db-DQ67SW/DQ67SW-overview.htm

thanks

We're facing similar problems with a H67 motherboard. You could try to install a new intel driver from: https://launchpad.net/~glasen/+archive/intel-driver

The complete resolutions are shown with this driver, but our machine is jumping back to the login screen when we're trying to change them.

I think your X is using Vesa driver instead of intel driver. That's the max you can get with the Vesa driver. Only with the intel driver you can hope of getting the native resolution.

I too have the same graphics card and I am unable to get the intel drivers working on it.

I compiled the latest intel drivers from git and still no luck. I am getting 'No devices detected' message.

I hope the support would be added sure. I will have to just need to keep trying the git often. :)

Try xorg-edgers PPA for a completely updated video stack (just updating driver doesn't work because you need kernel/DRM pieces too).

I agree. The first step is to get KMS working.

@margus21, I have created a bug report, can you please visit the link below and add your comments.

Install newer kernel and you are done.
Why waiting?
Which kernel do you use in the moment?

I use 2.6.32.33 - 10.04 ubuntu - updated till last one hour.

Getting resolution of 1024 x 1280 but need 1600 x 900 or something similar.

The ubuntu kernel devs ppa (lucid section) has a natty-backport-kernel package.

Don't know the impact this will have on the xorg-edgers intel driver (lucid).

if you mean ppa:kernel-ppa (https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa), they are down.Had to download & install manually.

The launchpad ppa is up but it looks like the packages are gone..or does this mean building in progress ?

The last kernel build for lucid 2.6.38-8.42 was in April.
https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa/+build/2403768

The UbuntuUpdates kernel backports have been removed/deleted.
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/kernel-ppa?dist=lucid

Must be the beginning of the end for 10.04.

So,if anyone still is interested in intel/sandybridge for 10.04.use glasen's patched intel drivers:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:glasen/intel-driver
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-backport-natty linux-headers-generic-lts-backport-natty
reboot

Install newer kernel and you are done.
That should fix resolution/modesetting issues, but isn't a newer mesa (than the one found in Lucid repo) required for 3D accel/Compiz? I'm also thinking that a newer libva wold be required to get all of the video accel goodness of Sandy Bridge.

Really, Sandy Bridge owners should run at least 11.04. 11.10 is better if user likes Unity/Gnome Shell or non-GNOME DE. Even then, using xorg-edgers is necessary to get the most out of the GPU.

Yes,thats why I added post #16
..this is exactly what glasen's ppa is made for.
mesa,libdrm,intel-driver all patched for 10.04 :P

Where is the difference for the intel GPU performance when running backported drivers ,mesa, aso and the latest kernel ?

...why?
Please explain,like to learn...

IDK, I'm not a fan of backporting. I'd rather just build from source.

I'm currently doing the same thing, the solution in realzippy's post works for me. Found it on a blog though. :P

I'm currently trying to upgrade mesa to 7.11 (Sandybridge improvements) here:

If somebody can help me there use their help to upgrade! It's worth it!

I have installed ubuntu 10.04 64bit and i have tested the #16 solution.
Now i have a max resolution 1360*768, is better than before but still not 1980*1080

Can you help me?

I just upgraded my mobo to an Intel DH67CL (10.04/2.6.32 wouldn't boot on my old ASUS). I decided to stay with a supported kernel and use a Radeon HD4350 given by a co-worker. The BIOS allows you to disable the on-board Sandy Bridge if there is an external card present. Works great.

create a new thread instead of posting in a SOLVED thread.

Better to install 12.04 LTS - it will take care of the new hardware. If you do not like UNITY, then you could try XUBUNTU or LINUX MINT.
