Is it my imagination, or is spam on the rise in the Ubuntu Users Mailing List Thread?
Are we stuck with it, or can something be done to deal with it?

Yes it is. The last few days it's been the same 3 or4 msgs over and over. I just report it as a bad thread. Oh sorry, I'm talking about forums threads. Is it in the mailing lists too?

The mailing list areas of the forum are not a regular part of the forum; they are the actual mailing lists displayed on the forum so that forum users can be part of the mailing list discussions.
Since the mailing lists are simply displayed here, we sync with the actual mailing list every few minutes, so, any spam that we try to remove from this area, will reappear when the mailing list area is synced. It's magically reappearing spam.
The only way to remove the spam is to remove it from the actual mailing list, of which, we are not in charge.

OK, I understand the limitation. How about adding Unanswered Posts to the
list of searches that can can be affected by
User Control Panel->Edit Options->Misc Options->Forums To Exclude From VIew?

I don't mean to appear thick, but wouldn't that also serve to encourage people to not help each other, and so kind of go against the whole point of the forums??

I'm sure it would, if it the exclusion were permanent or mandatory. The
Forums To Exclude From View option is user configurable, and lets the
user specify a list of forums he/she doesn't want to be displayed in the
results of certain predefined searches. By default that list is empty
so that all forums are included in search results, but the searches that
it applies to are only a very few, like "new" and "daily".
I'm just looking for a way to keep the Ubuntu Users Mailing List Thread
out of my searches, especially the Unanswered Posts search, because
it is problematical: contains spam, is synced often with the actual ubuntu-users
mailing list, has a Subject Line peculiarity that leaves an original post
forever unanswered. What this means is that the Unanswered Posts search
result is overpopulated with junk, and the forums administrators can't do
anything about it directly except continuously monitor the thread and delete
junk as necessary (which I'm certain is something that they are just dying
to add to their work load).

The problem isn't the spam but messages which get repeated multiple times over hours and days. I think this is a problem with the gateway.

The "Is Kexi Free" post that is being repeated over and over is not being sent to the mailing list from the list manager since it only appeared once in my inbox.

The repeating problem is generated on the forum side because the forum
syncs the Mailing List thread with the actual mailing list (some kind of smart
update?), and reposts some things repeatedly (especially the things I am talking
about, Unanswered Posts). The forum admins are well aware of this.

This is not related to a Kexi-thread but happens in every thread which gets a few replys.
