Hey gang..

Need some advice. Anyone know of a good USB web cab with microphone that
will work out of the box with recent version of Ubuntu? By out of the
box I mean you plug it in and install the software and your good to go.
Any help appreciated..

Get a logitech. There's a list somewhere answering what you're asking, but I forget where. You won't have to install any software, btw.

Yes. I have one as well, works great out of the box. it shocked me, I plugged it in, it worked.

Try it with guvcview. In the software center, and of course Skype.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. The Logitech is a bit too pricey for my purposes. I am putting together a line of HTPC's for sale on my website. Trying to keep the component prices to a minimum while maintaining quality.
I found a couple on New Egg that look promising, I just have no info on their
compatibility with Ubu. They both got good reviews. If anyone has experience with these, I would appreciate
feedback..

Look around the Linux Compatibility Hardware List (http://linuxhcl.com/) site. Not only for webcams, but for all kind of things, like keyboards, mice, printers, etc.

Good Luck!
