Laptop keyboard not recognized by Ubuntu (64 bits)

Suddenly, my laptop Dell XPS laptop keyboard can't be recognized by Ubuntu. Have to use on-screen-keyboard to log in, and can't find a way to make keyboard work. Keyboard works well in BIOS setup.

2.6.31-22-generic #69-Ubuntu x86_64 GNU/Linux

2.6.31 indicates that you are running 9.10. Support for this one will end april 30., so rather than troubleshooting you should go for a clean install of 10.04.2 or 10.10.

Remember to have wired internet access while installing.
