I have a Compaq CQ60-211dx laptop and just bought a replacement battery after owning it for nearly 2 years. I bought it new and it has clean air vents but it tends to run hot most of the time. I limited the CPU while running Vista last week and noticed a significant improvement. I monitored the temps using an app called speedfan... anyway, when I add the CPU applet to the panel in Ubuntu, It shows the current processor speed but will not allow me to alter the CPU speed (seems there is a hardware not compatible warning when I install the applet). Is there a solution? What graphical app can I install to limit my CPU speed? I want to prevent this new battery from getting too hot and I want to save my laptop from heat issues. Compaq really should have done a better job on the engineering on this model.
