Hello I am all around new to Linux, about 2 weeks ago I decided to give Fedora a try, and it just wasn't doing the job for me, so today I decided to give ubuntu 11.04b2 a try.

I have searched all around on the nets for a step by step tutorial on how to install the ATI drivers, and came across this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

I followed it step by step, however when I go to run the ATI Catalyst Control Center it displays an error message saying:

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.
No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig.

when i run fglrxinfo in the terminal it says:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

What have I done wrong here? Is ATI an ok choice for a ubuntu box if I want to play a few cpu intensive games (FPS & RTSs)

How can I ensure that this driver is installed and running? I plan to install ubuntu 11.04 final on release day and as of now I am running it on a virtual machine (would this have anything to do with the error messages?)

Thanks for the help and support! :)
