hi i have a buffalo hd-pe320u2 external hard disk which i use regularly. recently i took a look at the smart data in the disk utility and i was shocked to see that the load/unload cycle count of the relatively newer external (power on time ~80 days, load-u/load count 120000) had already crossed that of the internal notebook hard disk (power on time ~1 year load-u/load count 100000). I checked a western digital hard disk which had been powered on for a comparable period of time used exclusively on a windows machine and the load/unload cycle was something around 6000! i have laptop-mode-tools installed on my laptop which runs ubuntu 10.04 x64. can someone please help?
